Fierce Competition Over Human Feces in North Korea

crazynews
In North Korea, the production of chemical fertilizers has failed to meet demand, leading to a nationwide campaign to collect human feces as an alternative. Although the individual quotas have been reduced compared to previous years, citizens are still required to gather large quantities. According to Radio Free Asia (RFA), a U.S. government-affiliated media outlet, various conflicts—both minor and serious—have erupted across the country over the collection of human waste.

Every year during this season, merchants appear to sell human feces and fermented compost. To prevent theft, public toilets in neighborhoods are locked, with local community leaders overseeing their management.

However, this year has been especially tough for these merchants. Authorities have stepped up crackdowns on market activities, leaving many traders struggling financially. As a result, fewer people can afford to buy human waste. This has led to an increase in theft, with people stealing manure from their own pigs or even raiding other households' latrines. Police have been frequently dispatched to address these escalating incidents.

So they’re like humans laying golden eggs.
Eat a lot, poop a lot—I’m good at that!
Maybe we should just connect the world’s sewage systems to their country.
