Three men are on trial as of February 24, 2025, for the theft of a golden toilet from Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the birthplace of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The toilet was stolen in September 2019 from the palace in Oxfordshire, England.
Prosecutors say the golden toilet, valued at £4.8 million, was stolen in the early hours of September 14, 2019. At the time, it was displayed as an art piece. The suspects allegedly used two stolen vehicles to break through a locked wooden gate, entered the palace through a window, and ripped the toilet from the wall—completing the heist in just five minutes.
The toilet is believed to have been dismantled, making recovery impossible. The trial is ongoing.

I think the real problem is how easy it was to steal something made of gold in this setting.
I can’t understand the mindset behind either making or stealing a toilet like this.
A gold toilet seems way too expensive to actually use.
