At around 9:50 a.m. on March 11, a woman was stabbed by a man on a street in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku, Tokyo, according to a police report. When officers from the Totsuka Police Station arrived, they found a woman in her 20s lying on the ground with stab wounds to her head, neck, and chest. She was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead approximately an hour and 20 minutes later.
The police arrested a man in his 40s at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. The woman was walking alone while live-streaming when the man allegedly approached her from the side and stabbed her without warning. The police are now treating the case as a homicide and are investigating the details. She called herself "ふわっち(Fuwachi)" and streamed on a video service.
According to police officials, the man admitted to stabbing the woman but claimed, "I didn't mean to kill her." Before his arrest, he reportedly mentioned having a financial dispute with the victim. At the scene, the police seized a bloodstained survival knife with a 13 cm (about 5 inches) blade, believed to be the weapon. The man was also carrying another knife.
