On October 15 last year, a robbery took place at a convenience store in Takahata, Japan.
The suspect threatened a female employee by displaying a knife-like object made of cardboard wrapped in a towel. He then stole about $1,100 in cash. However, after taking the money, he returned $200 to the employee before fleeing the scene.
During his trial on January 27, the suspect explained why he had used a fake weapon, stating, "I didn't want either of us to get hurt in a struggle." Regarding his decision to return part of the stolen money, he said, "I thought the store could continue operating with $200, and I only needed around $900 to repay my debt."
On February 19, the court sentenced him to three years in prison with a five-year suspended sentence under probation.

He didn’t fully commit to being a villain.
I don’t get how he thought the store could survive on just $200.
The employee probably noticed the cardboard and gave him the money out of pity.
