A pond in a park in Chongqing, central China, was discovered to be full of dead carp, leading to the arrest of a 48-year-old man on suspicion of poisoning the water with pesticide.
The incident occurred in a park featuring a narrow pond filled with brightly colored Nishikigoi, or ornamental carp, often referred to as "swimming jewels." However, most of the carp were found floating dead on the surface on the water's surface. Workers were seen collecting the dead fish with nets.
According to police, the suspect, who managed the park's paid attractions, admitted to pouring leftover pesticide from his home into the pond. He was reportedly upset that the carp-viewing attraction was more profitable than his own operation.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
