On March 10, Tokyo’s Ikegami Police Station announced the arrest of a 37-year-old man from Koto Ward on charges of attempted murder and unlawful entry. He allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and tried to poison her by contaminating her personal items.
The suspect is accused of entering his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Ota Ward, where she lived alone, during the day on September 24, 2023. He reportedly soaked her pillow with liquid mercury and mixed liquid nicotine into her toothpaste, attempting to harm her. During questioning, he partially denied the charges, saying, "I didn’t intend to kill her—I just wanted to cause trouble."
According to the police, the woman returned home late on September 25 and found her room had been ransacked, prompting her to call emergency services. After using the toothpaste several times, she experienced numbness in her hands and feet. She avoided using the pillow because its cover had changed color.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had purchased mercury and nicotine online shortly before the incident.

There’s no way he didn’t intend to kill her.
I didn’t know you could just buy mercury online.
A guy like this totally deserves to be dumped.
