French media outlet France Info shared the touching story of Noel, a male cat who was reunited with his owner after 15 years, just hours before his passing—thanks to social media.
On January 18, volunteers from the Association of Free Cats in Pertuis responded to a call about a cat lying on the street. The group’s president scanned the cat’s microchip and found out his name was Noel, a 20-year-old cat. His registered owner was in Tahiti, but the contact number was no longer active.
Hoping to find his owner, the group turned to social media. Within 24 hours, they received valuable information from Tahiti. It turned out that Noel's owners had moved to mainland France with him in 2005, but he went missing in 2010. His owner had spent years searching for him, riding his bicycle around and calling his name, hoping for a reunion.
When the owner learned that Noel had been found, he rushed to his side. Noel seemed to recognize him and snuggled close, but just a few hours later, he passed away. Heartbroken, his owner said, “I wish we had more time together.”

I’m glad they were able to reunite at the end.
This really shows how important it is to keep pet microchip info updated.
The power of social media these days is incredible.
