On February 28, Europol announced the arrest of 25 suspects from a criminal group for distributing child pornography generated by artificial intelligence (AI) online. Authorities from 19 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands, conducted simultaneous searches at 33 locations on February 26.
According to Europol, Danish authorities arrested the group's ringleader in November last year. The Danish national operated a paid website that allowed users worldwide to access AI-generated child pornography. While most of the 25 arrested suspects are believed to be from European countries, their exact relationship with the ringleader has not been disclosed. Europol also indicated that more arrests could follow.
Europol has intensified its crackdown on child pornography since 2017. The agency highlighted the growing problem, stating, "AI-generated images are very easy to create, and these crimes are increasing. We need to develop new investigative methods and tools."

The rights of non-existent humans are being threatened.
So, even if the character is “20 years old,” it’s still not allowed?
It’s just fiction, so it feels like it should be legal.
