On January 27, a mass prison break took place at Munzenze Prison in Goma, a major city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), amid ongoing clashes between government forces and rebel groups. Hundreds of inmates escaped, and according to a United Nations report, between 165 and 167 female prisoners were sexually assaulted by male inmates during the escape. Many of them were later set on fire, leading to numerous fatalities.
Goma is currently under the control of the anti-government rebel group March 23 Movement (M23), and the city is in a state of chaos. Dead bodies are scattered across the streets, and missiles are flying overhead.
The United Nations reports that at least 2,900 people have died so far, with 2,000 of them having been buried. However, 900 bodies remain in morgues.

I don’t think a country can function like this.
It’s horrifying. Hard to believe this is happening in modern times.
At this point, it seems unlikely they’ll be able to recapture all those prisoners.
