A 59-year-old unemployed man from Hokkaido, Japan, has been arrested for stealing 79 toy items, mainly miniature cars, from a shopping mall in Kitami City between November last year and January this year.
The man allegedly stole toys valued at a total of $490 from the mall between November 14, 2024, and January 7, 2025.
On January 7, a store employee reported the shoplifting incident to the police. After reviewing security camera footage, police identified the suspect and arrested him on March 3, about two months later.
According to the police, most of the stolen items were miniature cars. During questioning, the suspect confessed to the theft, saying, "I love cars, so I stole a lot of them."
