UK Supermarket to Offer Food Near Expiration for Free After 9:30 PM

crazynews
On March 13, major UK supermarket chain Tesco announced a new initiative to offer food nearing its expiration date for free to reduce food waste.

According to multiple UK media outlets, Tesco will begin providing these items for free at select stores after 9:30 PM. This initiative aims to tackle food waste by distributing products that would otherwise be discarded.

Tesco, which holds nearly 30% of the UK’s grocery market, already donates surplus food to charities. However, the company decided to expand its efforts by offering food close to its expiration date directly to customers to help achieve its goal of halving food waste.

The BBC reports that this is the first time a UK supermarket will give food nearing its expiration date directly to customers.

I imagine all the customers will show up at 9:30 PM.
→ It’ll probably turn into a scramble for food.
The customer who just bought it at the regular price is likely to be criticized by the other customers.
