A Game with Prices That Change Based on Real-World Temperature

crazynews
Indie game studio Draknek & Friends has launched a special campaign on itch.io for their game 'A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build', where the price changes based on the current temperature. The colder it is, the cheaper the game becomes; the hotter it is, the more expensive it gets. This promotion celebrates the game's 10th anniversary.

The price is determined using temperature data from a weather station in London. Every hour, the temperature is checked, and the game's price is adjusted to match the Celsius reading. For example, if the temperature in London is 3°C, the game costs $3. The regular price is $14.99. According to the UK Met Office, the average temperature in London during May is 13.7°C. If the temperature drops below 0°C, the game will be available for free.

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build is a puzzle game where players control a black, bipedal monster. The goal is to roll snowballs and build snowmen. Each puzzle area, separated by hedges, contains snowballs in multiples of three. Rolling snowballs over snowy ground makes them larger. To complete a snowman, players must stack the snowballs in descending size order, which unlocks the next area. The game is highly rated on Steam, with 96% of user reviews being positive.

This is a really interesting idea—great marketing!
I didn’t know it was possible to change the price every hour.
It’s like a game of chicken to decide when to buy it.
