On March 6, 2025, an Air India flight traveling from Chicago to Delhi had to turn around after most of its onboard toilets became clogged and unusable. According to local media reports, the issue was first detected 1 hour and 45 minutes after takeoff, and the flight lasted a total of approximately 10 hours.
The flight had more than 300 passengers, but only the business class toilets at the front of the aircraft remained functional. Videos shared on social media showed the chaos inside the cabin due to the lack of working restrooms, sparking a lot of discussions SNS.
Air India later explained that the toilets became clogged because passengers had flushed fabric, plastic bags, and clothing into the pipes. The airline also clarified that the flight returned to Chicago instead of diverting to a European airport because many airports in Europe have restrictions on nighttime operations, particularly in the Arctic region.
