The Sri Lankan government suggested that a nationwide power outage around 11 a.m. on the 9th was caused by a monkey entering a power station south of the capital, Colombo.
Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody explained, "A monkey touched a transformer in the power grid, throwing the system off balance."
While electricity is gradually being restored, some residents still rely on generators for power.
