95% of Medical Students in South Korea Are on Leave of Absence

crazynews
It has been revealed that 95% of medical students in South Korea are currently on a leave of absence. Across 39 medical schools nationwide, a total of 18,343 students are on leave, representing a 58.6% increase since November of last year.

The reasons for the leaves include mandatory military service, with 1,419 students on military leave. Only 723 students are attending classes, reflecting a significant trend of students effectively opting out of their courses.

Applications for re-enrollment are scarce, with only 18 students across three national universities applying. The Ministry of Education is expected to announce measures to encourage medical students to return to their studies, though the effectiveness of these measures remains in doubt.

Viewer Comments:
It’s such a waste that they passed such tough exams to get in and then take a break.
Balancing military service and school just doesn’t seem doable.
Maybe they’re learning the art of taking leave.
