In Hampi, Karnataka, southern India, a group of tourists was attacked while stargazing at their homestay. The victims included an Israeli woman, an Indian woman, two Indian men, and one American man.
According to the police, three Indian men on motorcycles approached the tourists, threw the three male tourists into a canal, and physically assaulted and sexually abused the two women. The American man and one Indian man managed to survive, but the other Indian man was found dead two days later.
The women are currently receiving medical treatment. Two of the suspects, both Indian men in their 20s, were arrested two days after the incident on charges including sexual assault. Police are still searching for the third suspect.
The homestay owner reported that before the attack, one of the suspects asked how to obtain gasoline, while another demanded 100 rupees (about $1). Although the tourists said they had no money, they eventually gave the suspects 20 rupees. Despite this, the attackers continued to harass them, leading to the violent incident.

I’ve heard that sexual assault is common there, but I didn’t realize it was this bad…
If I were suddenly thrown into a river with my clothes on, I don’t think I could survive.
If you ever get robbed, the only option might be to just comply.
