A 34-year-old man has been arrested for stealing faucets from public restrooms in a park in Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture. Similar incidents have been reported in nearby cities, and police are investigating additional cases.
The suspect, a company employee from Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, was arrested for allegedly stealing a brass faucet worth approximately $30 from the restroom of Mukaiyama Park in Kariya City between January 3 and January 7.
Authorities have confirmed similar thefts in five neighboring cities, with a total of at least 93 faucets stolen.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to the charges and stated that he had also stolen faucets from other parks. Police suspect he repeatedly committed these thefts to sell the stolen faucets for profit and are continuing their investigation.
