80-Year-Old Man Sent to Prosecutors for Alleged Fraud Involving Fake Lottery Site

crazynews
An 80-year-old unemployed man from Chiba Prefecture has been sent to prosecutors for alleged fraud after tricking a victim into a seemingly fake lottery site with promises of guaranteed winnings. The Kanagawa Prefectural Police revealed this information on February 12.

According to investigators, between March and April 2024, the suspect convinced a man in his 60s from Yokohama that there was a way to win an overseas lottery, convincing him to send money. The suspect repeatedly contacted the victim, falsely claiming he had won and pressuring him to send more money.

The victim grew suspicious when he tried to claim his winnings but was told to pay additional fees. In August of the same year, he filed a fraud report with the police.

In an interview, the suspect claimed he was actually the CEO of a consulting company. He explained that he had met someone online who claimed to be an Asian woman and had invested money at her suggestion, only to lose it. According to him, he was told, "If you want your money back, you must introduce five people to the lottery," which led him to recommend the fake lottery to his acquaintance in his 60s.
