27,000 Salmon Escape from Norwegian Fish Farm, Company Offers Reward for Their Return

crazynews
The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries announced on February 9 that 27,000 farmed salmon had escaped from a fish farm operated by Mowi, the world’s largest salmon farming company. The incident occurred at the "Storlvika V" facility in Dyrøy, Troms County, located in northwestern Norway, when the net of an offshore farm broke, allowing the fish to swim into the sea.

The fish are now fully grown, with an average weight of 5.5 kg. Concerns about the ecological impact have arisen, as the escaped farmed salmon could breed with wild salmon, disrupting natural populations. To prevent this, Mowi has offered a reward of 500 Norwegian kroner (approximately $45) for each escaped salmon.

Ola Helge Hjetland, a spokesperson for Mowi, stated, "This is extremely unfortunate and something that should never have happened."

I’m heading to Norway with a net to catch them!
I wonder if they can tell the farmed salmon from the wild ones.
Is this the real “Salmon Run”?
