The Kanagawa Prefectural Police arrested a 48-year-old man from Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama, on February 12 on suspicion of theft. The suspect, who claims to be a part-time worker, allegedly stole gaming devices from elementary school children.

According to police, the incident occurred on December 25 of the previous year between 1:20 PM and 2:00 PM at a park in the ward. The suspect is accused of stealing a total of nine items, including handheld gaming consoles and software, worth approximately 38,000 yen(about $250), from two boys—a fourth grader and a second grader—who live in the area.

The man admitted to the charges, stating, "I definitely stole them. I wanted to see if a shop would buy the latest gaming devices."

While the children were playing tag and had left their consoles on a bench, a woman at the park with her child saw the theft happen. A fourth-grade boy used his smartphone to call the police. Some of the stolen items included game cartridges that the children had just received as Christmas presents.

During the investigation, police discovered that seven of the stolen items had already been sold for several tens of thousands of yen at a store in Kanagawa Ward, Yokohama, by around 2:30 PM the same day. The suspect was identified through the ID he used during the transaction.

Stealing a kid’s brand-new Christmas present is just cruel.
Looks like he’s already game over.
Seems like this 48-year-old kid needs a present too.
