A British man who claims to have lost $784 million worth of Bitcoin in a landfill is in talks with investors about purchasing the site, according to a BBC report on February 10th.
James Howells said that in 2013, his ex-girlfriend accidentally threw away a hard drive containing 8,000 BTC at a landfill in Newport, located on Dock Way. For the past ten years, Howells has repeatedly requested the Newport council's help in recovering the drive, but he claims his requests have largely been ignored. The Newport council has declined to comment on the matter, the BBC reported.
Howells stated, "Recently, I've been discussing with investment partners the option of purchasing the landfill, and it's definitely being considered."
Howells attempted to sue the council for the Bitcoin’s peak valuation of £49.5 million in early 2024, but his case was dismissed by a judge in January. The council plans to close the landfill in the next fiscal year and has already secured permission to build a solar power plant on the site.

The HDD might already be buried in the landfill by now.
His ex-girlfriend probably deserves a slap for that.
I can’t imagine the despair when he realized what happened.
