The London Zoo has announced the birth of 33 baby Darwin’s frogs, born from 11 male frogs that traveled over 7,000 miles (11,000 km) from Chile. This species is known for its unique reproductive behavior, where males incubate and nurture tadpoles in their mouths, as well as its small adult size of just 3 cm (1.18 inches).
Once abundant in Chile’s Tantauco Park, the species faced a severe decline due to a fungal outbreak, putting it at risk of extinction. To protect the frogs, 52 individuals were transported to the London Zoo in October 2024, enduring a 35-hour journey by boat, car, and plane.
The zoo described the birth as a "historic moment" and hopes to eventually reintroduce the frogs to their natural habitat.

They raise their babies in their mouths? That’s so weird.
A 35-hour journey? That sounds exhausting.
I wonder if they ever accidentally swallow their own kids.
