On March 6, 2025, Denmark’s postal service provider, PostNord Denmark, announced that it will lay off 1,500 employees and remove 1,500 mailboxes across the country. Additionally, the company will end its letter delivery service on December 30, 2025.
PostNord Denmark has been delivering letters across the country since 1624, when its services began. However, the number of letters has sharply declined in recent years due to the rapid shift to digital communication. According to PostNord Denmark, the volume of letters handled has decreased by about 90% between 2000 and 2024.
Denmark is also moving toward market liberalization, allowing other companies to enter the letter delivery market. From January 1, 2026, letter delivery will be handled by providers other than PostNord Denmark.
