Thousands of Tourists Flock to Erupting Volcano in Italy

crazynews
Mount Etna, the tallest volcano in Europe, has been erupting for a week since February 11, drawing thousands of tourists to the island of Sicily in southern Italy. While the eruption continues amid snowfall, dramatic footage of lava streaming down the mountainside has gone viral on social media.

The surge in visitors has hindered rescue efforts, blocking emergency vehicles and resulting in incidents, including the disappearance of eight hikers who attempted to climb the volcano without a guide. Rescue teams are on-site, but reckless tourist behavior is further increasing the danger.

Mount Etna has a history of disruptive eruptions. In 2023, volcanic ash clouds forced the closure of Sicily’s airport.

Viewer Comments:
They’re foolish for going near without a tour guide.
The footage on the news is more than enough for me.
It’s way closer than I expected. That looks dangerous.
